Why Nepal? Nepal is a small country, less than 200km wide, situated between China and India; it has nine of the highest peaks in the world, tropical jungle, thirty different indigenous groups, six languages and many dialects, two main religions and over nine hundred temples; all this is just a touch of what makes Nepal intricate and beautiful.

TAMUR RIVER

One of the few unspoiled remaining paradises. The tamur River comprises all the fascination of unexplored Asia. NEPAL INFO...

karnali We are frequently asked, "can I take part in the Nepal expedition if I have only rafted once or twice"? The answer is YES, of course you can do it.
The philosophy of our expeditions is to give our customers the tools necessary to enjoy traveling in wonderful places like Nepal. Our trip starts and ends in Kathmandu. what you want to do before or after the expedition is entirely up to you. We have 14 years of experience in Nepal and in Asia, so we can offer you all the advice and suggestions on how to orientate your programs, if you want to extend your vacation.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST ?

The expedition cost is 1.750,00 EURO, not including the international flight to Kathmandu.

Included in the price is:
  • All technical gear for rafting
  • Camping gear (tents, camping kitchen...)
  • All transport during the expedition (*)
  • Porters where necessary
  • Food
  • Rafting and trekking permits

What is excluded:

the first and the last night in Kathmandu, but we will hand you a list of hotels with a price range from 10 USD to 100 USD per night and then you can choose your own level of comfort.

...how do I get there ?

You can book your flight with any travel agency or have a look on the internet.
If you are really interested, our first advice is to make a pre booking for the flight to Kathmandu as soon as possible. You can do this by telephone and cancel it again without any commitment, but get in early!

...what is the climate like ?

karnali October and November are the best months to travel in Nepal, especially for the area where we go. The Monsoon finishes in September. This means all the rivers have been cleaned by the floods and the fields are fertilized and will be blooming in bright colours. The temperature ranges between 28°C and 35°C during the day. It is a dry heat but there is always a nice cool breeze from the river. During the night the temperature drops to between 14°C and 18°C. The water temperature is pleasent, about 15°C; we raft in wetsuits and spray jackets... and there aren’t any mosquitoes!

what do I have to bring ?

We obviously have to bring all the gear along in the rafts and must reduce everything to the essentials. Leave the hair dryer, mixer or radio at home

Personal equipment:
  • Sleeping bag (-10°C +15°C)
  • Camping mattress or “Therm’a’rest “
  • One pair of long pants (jeans are not recommended)
  • One sweater (buy it at the market in Kathmandu!)
  • Two T-Shirts
  • Underwear and one pair of socks
  • Toilet articles
  • Day pack for eventual excursions
  • Water bottle
  • One pair of light trekking shoes or gym shoes
  • Head torch with spare batteries
Personal equipment for rafting:
  • One pair of sandals (for example Tevas; they need to have good Velcro locks and stay tight)
  • A sarong for women or a piece of cloth to wrap around the waist to visit temples. In Asia they are still very conservative and consider nudity an offence. The maximum they accept are shorts, but only for men (only people of the lowest cast show their legs!)
  • Sunglasses (not metal) with a string
  • Sun block (15+)
  • Hat/baseball cap

Camera equipment: Don’t forget your camera! We give you waterproof barrels to keep them dry. They have room for a camera and a zoom lens (not huge). If you plan on bringing 20 lenses and 5 tripods, bring your own Pelicase and lots of beers for the guide who has to take it on his raft. Remember to bring a UV filter, since the sun reflecting off the water is very strong. Regarding films, buy them at home and develop them when you return. Bring heaps!

Do I need any vaccinations ?

We recommend the following vaccinations, based on our experiences, but recommend you consult with your family doctor and take their advice.
Typhoid
Tetanus
We also recommend a check by the dentist before leaving

About Malaria : Theoretically the area we visit is malaria-free, though some cases have been registered in the past. Ask advice to specialized centers and consult your doctor. A good prevention is by having a good mosquito repellent (containing deet).
We provide a very well furnished first aid kit for the trip. If you want to bring some medicine because you plan also to travel on your own, make sure your first aid kit has the following items:
  • Band Aids and dressing
  • Scissors
  • Disinfectant liquid and cream
  • Antibiotics
  • Pain killers
  • Eye drops and ear drops

And bring your own personal perscription medicine with you, in case you are taking any. Consult your doctor for further information (allergies, various contra indications etc.)
